Former US Open champions Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens have been awarded women’s singles main-draw wild cards for this year’s US Open by the US Tennis Association. One women’s and one men’s wild-card slot remains open, with 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams yet to secure a place in the tournament as she continues her comeback. Serena, 44, last competed in a Grand Slam singles main draw at the 2022 US Open, where she reached the third round. She returned to singles at Wimbledon this year but was eliminated in the opening round. Venus, 46, is a two-time US Open champion and five-time Wimbledon winner, although she has struggled recently, losing her last 14 WTA singles matches dating back to July 2025. Stephens won the US Open in 2017. Other women receiving wild cards include Americans Carol Young Suh Lee, Reese Brantmeier and 17-year-old Thea Frodin, alongside France’s Leolia Jeanjean and Australia’s Taylah Preston. On the men’s side, French veteran Gael Monfils and Australia’s Alexei Popyrin were among those selected, alongside several American players, including 18-year-old Jack Kennedy.
