Popular Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, popularly known as Samidoh, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat in Nyandarua County. Samidoh said his decision to enter politics is not based on his fame as a musician, but on his personal connection to the constituency, his upbringing there, and his desire to take part in leadership and policymaking. Describing Ol Joro Orok as his home, the musician recounted his difficult childhood after losing his parents at a young age. He said determination, faith and hard work helped him overcome adversity, first through his career in the Kenya Police Service and later in the music industry. Samidoh emphasized that he is not seeking office simply because he is a well-known musician. He said years of using music to highlight issues affecting ordinary Kenyans made him realise that advocating for change was not enough and that he needed to participate directly in decision-making. He pointed to his involvement in the “One Term” campaign as an experience that reinforced his belief in accountability and citizens’ right to demand better leadership. If elected, Samidoh said he would use Parliament as a platform to represent the interests of Ol Joro Orok residents and push for policies addressing challenges facing the community. Education is one of the key priorities in his proposed agenda. He said he wants to see an Ol Joro Orok where no child misses school because their family cannot afford education-related expenses. He also proposed easing the financial pressure on parents of day-school students, suggesting that families could contribute towards meals and other agreed needs while the government gradually takes greater responsibility for school fees.
